Private capital, the president said , should take a bigger role in the mortgage market. I know that sounds confusing to folks who call me a socialist I think I saw some posters there on the way in. [Laughter.] But I actually believe in the free market. Apparently Obama has become such an ardent fan of the free market that some Republicans now think hes a tool of the corporate, capitalist elite. Self-appointed GOP budget guru Paul Ryan accuses the president of being for the well-connected and wanting to give big banks a backstop -- and a leg up on community banks. Ryan is nothing if not inconsistent. Earlier, the Wisconsin Republican denounced Obama for sowing social unrest and class resentment and of denigrating people who are successful by suggesting that it's not their result of their hard work, that it's somebody else or that it's some big government experiment that is the reason for their success in life." So, Representative Ryan, and the rest of the GOP, which is it: Corporate stooge or socialist?
